Bushido, which means "the way of the warrior," is a small-scale budo school located in a beautiful dojo in Alkmaar. Classes in Jiu Jitsu are offered twice a week — on Monday and Thursday — for both youth and adults. Rob Verboom, owner of Bushido-Verboom, is supported during these lessons by Stefan Vlieg (youth and adults) and Mark Beentjes (youth and adults). Unlike Judo, Karate, and Aikido (which all originated from Jiu Jitsu), the origins of Jiu Jitsu itself are unknown. What is known is that this martial art was practiced by the samurai of ancient Japan. Even without weapons, these warriors had to be able to survive — both in battle and beyond. Jiu Jitsu is therefore an all-round martial art, with (physical and mental) self-defense at its core in the broadest sense of the word.

Budo roughly translates to "martial arts" and is a collective term for various Japanese defensive and combat sports. Originally, the association was founded as a judo club, but quite some time ago we were proud to welcome Aikido and Iaido as well. Over the years, our offerings have expanded, and in addition to junior and senior judo, we now also offer tumbling judo for the very youngest.
