Art Jimmerson, best known for his iconic one-glove appearance at UFC 1 against Royce Gracie in 1993, has passed away.

Jimmerson, who retired from professional boxing in 2002 with a record of 33 wins (17 by KO) and 18 losses, entered the Octagon with a unique strategy, wearing only one glove to jab with and planning to use his power hand (his right) for knockouts.

Unfortunately for Jimmerson, his UFC debut was short-lived as he tapped out to Gracie at 2:18 of Round 1, becoming the first person in UFC history to lose by submission. Despite the loss, Jimmerson's appearance left a lasting impact on the sport.

A rumored rematch between Jimmerson and Gracie in August 2011 never materialized, and Jimmerson retired from boxing to coach fighters in California. His family confirmed his passing on Facebook, stating,

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Art Jimmerson. Art was known for his love of God, family, and boxing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

Former UFC referee and current Bellator commentator John McCarthy paid tribute to Jimmerson on social media, praising his bravery and success in the art of boxing. Jimmerson's legacy will be remembered by fans of both boxing and MMA, as he played a significant role in the early days of the UFC.

A funeral service to celebrate Art's life will be announced, and his family has requested thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
