Safe sports: why a quality mark?
The 'martial arts gym locator' lists gyms with a quality mark from the Dutch Martial Arts Authority (VA). Gyms with this quality mark have to follow certain rules. For example, they have to provide expert trainers and good equipment.
Together with employees of the Dutch municipalities, gym owners have come up with the quality mark of the Dutch Martial Arts Authority. So that you can immediately see what the safest and best martial arts gyms are. The Ministry of VWS and NOC*NSF Centrum Veilige Sport support the hallmark. Many Dutch sports organizations for kickboxing, Thai boxing or MMA also support this quality mark.

Kickboxing is an energetic martial art. This sport is very popular in the Netherlands. In kickboxing you are allowed to punch and kick. You learn to defend yourself. Kickboxing has many advantages. Condition: You improve your fitness and heart. You move a lot and the movements are fast. That requires energy. In this way, you also train the heart. Muscle strengthening and strength: By hitting and kicking, you put several muscles to work. These become stronger and more powerful. If you train regularly, then legs, arms and shoulders also get stronger. This ensures that you get a good physique. Weight loss and calorie burning: Kickboxing can burn about 600-800 calories in an hour. So this sport can also help you maintain weight. Increased flexibility: Kickboxing involves stretching and lots of movements. This makes you more flexible. You move more easily and you reduce the risk of injury. Every martial arts gym is different. Therefore, ask the gym in advance what exactly you need to bring for your first class. Be sure to bring comfortable sportswear, sneakers, a towel and bandage. Some martial arts gyms provide boxing gloves when you take your first class. To properly participate in training, it is helpful that you have eaten well over an hour before class. Make sure you are fresh and don't forget to cut your nails before class! You will sweat during the workout. Therefore, bring a bottle of water with you against thirst.
