Weltergewichtkandidaten Khamzat Chimaev en Paulo Costa leken de afgelopen weken en maanden op elkaar af te stevenen.

De twee hebben regelmatig trashtalk uitgewisseld op sociale media en in interviews na een aanvaring tijdens UFC 279 fight week in september vorig jaar, wat leidde tot geruchten over een confrontatie in de Octagon.

In tegenstelling tot geruchten had Costa onlangs echter een andere gevecht bevestigd.

Tijdens UFC 291, die op 29 juli in Salt Lake City plaatsvindt, zal "Borrachinha", die nu # 5 in de 185-pond divisie is , een comeback maken om het op te nemen tegen de niet-gerangschikte prospect Ikram Aliskerov.

"Paulo has like, spoken a lot of sh*t about me. That guy, I want to smash him. I want to kill this guy," Chimaev said in a YouTube video. "I was doing a lot of things and he wants to fight with the other guy. The guy, I fought him a long time before. Three or four years ago, before UFC. I win against the guy.

"I think the guy will beat him (Costa) as well. Paulo is not good. He's sh*t, bro. He just talks too much," Chimaev continued. "He beat nobody. A close fight against Romero, only fighter he wins against. Other people, I don't know. Nobody knows these guys. I don't know who he beat."

Gezien het gerucht dat Chimaev op 185 pond gaat vechten, lijkt het logisch dat de winnaar van Costa vs. Aliskerov in de toekomst een match-up met de in Tsjetsjeen geboren Zweed zou nastreven.
