The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to Sydney for the first time since 2017. The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion has signed a four year agreement with Australia's New South Wales government, which paves the way for three events in the "Harbour City" to take place between 2023 and 2027. The first event will be held during UFC 293 on September 10, 2023.

According to UFC president Dana White “australians are some of the most passionate fight fans in the world and we know these Sydney events are going to be massive.“ White adds that “Sydney was the first Australian city to host a UFC Pay Per View, and we are going to bring incredible events every time we come back over the next four years.“

Officially the UFC has yet to announce the fight card for UFC 293. Fox Sports Australia is nonetheless reporting that Australian native Robert Whittaker is favoured to headline the event and is expected to fight Israel Adesanya, should he be able to win from Driscus Du Plessis during UFC 290 on July 9.

Both Whittaker and his fellow Australian Alexander Volkanovski are already booked for UFC 290, making this a busy time for two of the country's most prominent UFC fighters.
